The Retired Professional Fire Fighters Cancer Fund is pleased to announce their donation of $10,000. to The Sloan – Kettering Institute (SKI), Memorial – Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s research arm. The donation was (will be) presented by the fund’s president William H. Newland on June 9, 2010 in New York City to Jacquelyn Ward, Annual Giving Officer for Memorial Sloan – Kettering Cancer Center. The donation is being directed to the Center’s Human Oncology & Pathogenesis Program (HOPP), to help develop the next wave of therapies that treat malignancies, protect healthy tissue & halt drug resistance. The HOPP research team, led by Dr. Charles Sawyers, links expertise in prostate, breast, lung, brain, and thyroid cancer, sarcoma, melanoma and leukemia with clinical training in oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, molecular biology, endocrinology and pathology. The Retired Professional Fire Fighters Cancer Fund was founded by Fire Fighters in 2006 in Binghamton, N.Y. The Fund, a non profit 501(c)3 organization, is dedicated to funding promising cancer research programs with a focus on those cancers that have a higher incidence among fire fighters.
