Replacement workers put community at risk.
State and local union leaders affiliated with the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association (NYSPFFA) will join the picket line at Momentive Performance Materials in Waterford in support of 700 members of IUE-CWA Local 81359. The event marks one month since the strike began.
WHEN: 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 1.
WHERE: Picket line at Momentive Performance Materials, 301 Hudson River Road (Route 4), Waterford.
WHO: IUE-CWA Local 81359, NYSPFFA leadership and rank-and-file members from the Capital Region.
WHY: In addition to standing with Momentive workers to underscore the commitment to the rights of organized labor to collectively bargain, the firefighters are sounding an alarm that public safety is being compromised by management’s action to hire replacement personnel that lack the specialized training to react to the on-site dangers and risks posed by the use of various hazardous chemicals and materials at the Saratoga County plant.
