The memories are so vivid they do not fade with the passing of time. Adequately expressing our feelings 18 years later remains difficult and we know our voices can instantly be choked with emotion.
Many of you were first-hand witness to the devastation and your selfless actions saved thousands of lives. However, it is also a fact that for some the injuries that were inflicted that day, and in the days that followed, are slow to emerge or remain dormant.
We are grateful for your service and will continue to stand by you.
It is an undeniable point of pride that fire fighters across this state and nation kept the light on countering the darkness, restoring hope and comforting families, neighbors and communities.
We will never forget.
Equally importantly is this - we will never give up.
You found the resolve to move forward. Thank you my sisters and brothers.
On this day of remembrance, be safe. Be strong. And may God bless each of you.
