Per the NYS State Office of EMS, if any department uses the state’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) program to recertify their EMS certification, including Certified First Responder (CFR), must complete an electronic patient care report (ePCR). NY State Office of EMS provides free access to a web-based ePCR using Image Trend. It is a basic patient care report that can be completed back at the station after the EMS run similar to NFIRS. If the department elects to continue using the state’s CME program they must enroll by December 28th and begin completing patient care reports on January 1, 2022. If the department elects not to participate in the CME program they do not have to submit the ePCR and can continuing documenting patient care in the NFIRS report. There is no other penalty or loss of funding attached to this. If the department elects not to use the state’s CME program the EMS providers will have to use an alternate way to recertify.
