Update:
Checks can either be made out, Gregory Kramer, with a memo for Chris Cartella benefit, and mailed to 112 Genesee Street, Hornell NY, or made out to the Syracuse Fire department Federal Credit Union, with a memo for Chris Cartella benefit, and mailed to 211 Wilkinson Street, Syracuse NY.
On Wednesday, August 21, Chris Cartella suffered a basal ganglia hemorrhagic stroke and spent 3 days in the Neuro ICU, then 9 days in the Neuro step-down unit at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, before being transferred for rehabilitation at Elderwood in Hornell. As a result of the stroke, Chris lost the use of his right limbs and must undergo extensive physical and occupational therapy to recover the strength and use of his arm, hand, leg and foot. This will take time and patience, but the prognosis is very positive.
In true Hornell fashion and spirit, many of you have reached out, asking how you can help. Now that Chris is stable and in rehab, it's time to start thinking about the future. As you can imagine, it is impossible for Chris to return to work as a Firefighter/Paramedic without a 100% recovery, which could take months, if at all.
We're hoping this fundraiser will help ease any financial burden and allow Chris, Meghan and their four children to focus on his recovery.
Tickets are $15 each and will be available soon (check back for details!) There will be lots of food, DJ/dancing, raffles, auctions and cash bar.
