Please see the following message from NYSPFFA President Sam Fresina regarding the signing of S.4630B/A.5418:
“Many of the products commonly used today to treat various fabrics as a fire retardant, become toxic and cancer causing chemicals when burned,” said Sam Fresina, president of the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association. “Occupational health studies have established links between fire fighting and an alarming number of cancer conditions. We are grateful that Governor Hochul has signed the Family and Fire Fighter Protection Act into law and appreciate the work of the bill sponsors, Senator Todd Kaminsky and Assemblyman Steve Englebright. This act will protect fire fighters across New York and demonstrates that New York’s leaders are aware of this important issue – and a willingness to take meaningful action on behalf of more than 18,000 professional fire fighters and the families that rely on them.”
