Legislative Updates

Apr 9, 2020 | nyspffa_news

Brothers and Sisters,

Just a note to keep you in the loop. We have been working on a presumptive COVID 19 bill, which covers uniform and civilian employees working on the front lines, and most at risk. As your representative, I have enlisted the help of Matt O’Connor and John Black to review and amend language to make sure all our members are covered. Support from the legislature has been strong, from leadership in both houses, led in the Assembly by Peter Abbate, with whom we have been working closely. The AFL-CIO and State Comptroller’s office has also been fully involved in this effort. The legislature is currently on break until April 20th, at which time the bill will hopefully be in final form. We will continue to provide updates, and ask that you contact your legislators for support.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our state legislative conference in Albany, slated for May 3-4. If you have already registered and paid, we will send you a refund. Our Executive Board will discuss alternate plans to address pending legislation, as deemed necessary by the shortened legislative session, and restrictions due to COVID.

As always, we are available to discuss any questions and concerns.

Stay Safe,

Samuel A. Fresina

President
