Your IAFF 1st District Conference is rapidly approaching. As you recall our delegates voted to hold this event bi-annually alternating with the state convention (resolution #1-2017). Our goal is to provide a quality program during the non-convention year, including educational seminars and a chance to meet on issues both as a state and IAFF district, at a lower cost. Hopefully the savings will allow more locals the opportunity to attend an IAFF convention.
Over the years many of you have expressed regret at not being able to make the trip to the ALTS educational summit. As part of this year’s program, we have asked the IAFF to bring a “mini-ALTS” (PEP) to you right here in NY. While a trip to ALTS typically costs well over $1,000, the IAFF is making this mini-ALTS available at $135 pp to register, which will cover their costs.
Now, you may recall that your board committed to delivering the conference for $50 pp. We feel that the value delivered is way in excess of $135, but we gave our word. So we’re offering a choice: if you can afford the $135 to support the program without a deficit, we would greatly appreciate that. However, if not, we will honor the $50 fee and reimburse your local for the remaining costs.
Agenda Details
This conference will open on Monday June 25th, with our state caucus from 1-4pm. Tuesday we will meet with our brothers and sisters from NJ, discussing IAFF resolutions from 10am-noon. The remainder of the day, and Wednesday is reserved for PEP classes with the program wrapping up at noon on Wednesday. We will be posting all information including hotel on our web site.
