December 29, 2012 - Two firefighters are recovering from injuries suffered when they were forced to jump from a second-story window while battling a blaze at a Hudson Valley apartment building.
Thomas Metzger fractured left arm and Brian Renn suffered a collapsed lung while fighting Saturday's four-alarm fire. Both men were treated at hospitals overnight and released Sunday.
Officials say the two men got trapped on the second floor after the fire burned away the wooden staircase. They jumped out a window and landed on a porch roof covered in ice and snow, causing them to slide off.
Metzger won't return to duty for several months, while Renn is expected to be back to work in a few weeks.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
