Brothers and Sisters,
Here are most recent updates on some of our bills.
Death and Disability Presumption for Parkinson's Disease – S.4233-A (Gounardes)/A6461-A (Abbate)
• This bill establishes a presumption with respect to Parkinson’s Disease that results in death or disability for paid firefighters in New York State. The toxic exposures that fire fighters are subject to on the job are a probably contribution to the onset of Parkinson’s Disease and the rate of the disease is significantly higher for fire fighters than the general population.
• Passed Senate; Voted out of Rules today and now on the Assembly Floor
“The Family and Firefighter Protection Act” – S.4630-B (Kaminsky)/A.5418-B (Englebright)
• This bill will phase out the use of certain flame retardant chemicals in upholstered furniture or mattresses as well as electronic display products in New York State. Recent studies have demonstrated that fire fighters have higher incidents of cancer compared to other occupational illnesses and such illnesses are directly related to the job of firefighting and the increased use of chemicals in household products and other applications.
• On Senate Floor; Voted out of Assembly Codes today and is now in Assembly Rules
