Firefighters and health leaders nationwide are urging lawmakers to crack down on the use of toxic chemicals in flame retardant products.
They say decades of research link the chemicals used in flame retardant products to a number of health problems including cancer.
“Our brothers and sisters across the country are facing alarming rates of cancer and we need the federal government and our local leaders here in the state to take notice and help us come up with solutions,” said Mike McManus of the NYS Professional Firefighters Association.
The goal of the "Give Toxins the Boot" campaign is to get tougher policies in place to make sure these chemicals are safe before allowing them in building materials or in products that we use in our homes.
